According to China's top medical industry association, Indian companies have ordered more than 60000 Oxygen Concentrator Device from Chinese medical equipment manufacturers to solve the problem of medical oxygen shortage in India. India is now facing a devastating surge in the covid-19 case.
The China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Medicines and Health Products (CCCMHPIE) is awash with questions from Indian companies about the procurement of API (active pharmaceutical ingredients) and drugs for the treatment of covid-19 (such as redactor, favipiravir, and dexamethasone), the chamber told HT in an exclusive statement.
"As of May 5, the industry's oxygen generator manufacturers had received orders for more than 60000 oxygen generators from India," the chamber said, adding that delivery of some of the goods would be completed by the end of May.
The statement said that the Chamber of Commerce maintains close contact with its Indian counterparts, and "has also received a large number of inquiries and purchase requests from India, involving pulse oximeters and anti-epidemic drugs and APIs including Favipiravir, Dexamethasone, Remdesivir, etc."
In addition, the chamber said that Chinese enterprises have also received inquiries from India for nitrile gloves and CT scanning equipment, and are now increasing production progress to ensure supply.
"On April 26, CCCMHPIE publicly recommended that Chinese medical enterprises take immediate action and do their best to provide support and help to solve the shortage of medical supply in India to fight the epidemic," the statement added.
The chamber added that it maintained "ongoing communication" with the Indian Embassy in Beijing and Pharmexcil, the Indian drug Export Promotion Council, which is New Delhi's authorized body to promote Indian drug exports.
So far, India has not received any intergovernmental assistance from China but has allowed private enterprises to buy medical supplies and equipment from their Chinese counterparts.
According to official data as of late April, Chinese enterprises have supplied India with more than 5000 ventilators, 21569 oxygen generators, more than 21.48 million masks, and about 3800 tons of drugs.
On April 30th, Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed grave concern about the pandemic in India and offered to help fight the avian flu epidemic and sent a message to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
China's official news agency quoted Xi Jinping as saying: "China is willing to strengthen cooperation with India in epidemic prevention and provide support and assistance to India."
Xi Jinping also said in his congratulatory message, "I am very concerned about the recent outbreak of new coronary artery pneumonia in India. On behalf of the Chinese government and China, and in my name, I would like to express my sincere condolences to the government and people of India."
