How Does An Oxygen Concentrator Work?

Oxygen Concentrator Machine is a medical device to help people with low oxygen content in the blood. They are powered by plugging devices into power outlets or using batteries. If a battery is used, it needs to be plugged into a power outlet for charging. Most concentrators also come with adapters, so you can use the device while driving.

The oxygen generator receives the air, purifies it, and then distributes the newly formed air. Before entering the concentrator, the air consists of 80% nitrogen and 20% oxygen. The oxygen concentrator uses this air and then produces 90% to 95% pure oxygen and 5% to 10% nitrogen. The purpose of separating nitrogen is to provide patients with the highest possible oxygen dose because it is difficult to obtain this percentage of oxygen without the help of medical equipment.

2. Compressed oxygen.

3. Remove nitrogen from the air.

4. Adjust the air delivery mode.

5. Transport purified air.

The Working Principle of Oxygen Generator

The portable oxygen generator consists of many parts. Compressor and sieve bed filter are two main components. The compressor compresses and filters the air entering the concentrator, and then continuously delivers the air.

The compressed air enters the sieve bed filter. The sieve bed filter plays an important role because it is a device to remove nitrogen from the air. A kind of material called zeolite is a six-sided micro cube with holes on each side. In the sieve bed, this is the way to remove nitrogen from the air.

There are two sieve beds in the concentrator. The air is first compressed in the concentrator and then forced into the first sieve bed. Oxygen is sent to the product tank. Then the first sieve bed is filled with nitrogen. Next, the airflow is switched and the compressed air is moved to the second bed. The compressor of the first sieve bed is sent to the outdoor, and the air in the product tank returns to the first sieve bed.

The pressure drop of the first bed and the decrease of oxygen make the zeolite release nitrogen. Oxygen and nitrogen come back together and are released indoors as normal air. The air is then compressed and sent to a second sieve through which oxygen enters the product tank. The whole cycle starts again with the first sieve after a few seconds.

Other important parts are the cooling system to prevent overheating of the portable oxygen concentrator and the nasal cannula to deliver purified oxygen after it has passed through all sieve bed filters. The sleeve helps to improve oxygen absorption.

The portable oxygen concentrator has two oxygen receiving settings: pulse dose and continuous flow. Pulse dose mode is usually used during the day because when you inhale, it carries air through the cannula. The concentrator with pulse dose technology has a more compact design and longer battery life.

The continuous flow mode provides a constant airflow through the pipe. For people who need oxygen during sleep, this mode is the best choice.
